In recent years, a lot of airlines have made great efforts and major domestic ones, including Air China, China Eastern, China Southern and Hainan Airlines have successively conducted Internet test in the air so as to make the In-Flight Internet possible as soon as possible. After the ecosphere of In-Flight Internet industry becomes mature, various new consumption modes supported by air networks are expected to become a normal phenomenon.
On Nov. 11, 2014, the first In-Flight Internet Industry Alliance was established and and the industry declaration of "Internet, Fly, New Life" was revealed. Members will develop cross-border cooperation for the purpose to build a win-win ecosystem covering the entire industrial chain of "In-flight Internet". Air China has modified 17 planes and put them in use. As a result, nearly 60 flights each day can provide onboard network service. And Air China will gradually finish the online project of the left over 500 planes of its fleet in the future.
On Dec. 7, China Eastern E-commerce Co., Ltd. wholly owned by China Eastern was established, which is intended to expand the e-business and speed up the transition to be a modern air service integrator. China Eastern E-commerce will run to take charge of the operation and management of China Eastern's online marketing service platform and use air-ground interconnection technologies, etc. to create an air mall.
During 1111 Shopping Carnival, China Southern Airlines set up an E-commerce Department quietly which means the company has transformed from a transport provider to a full-service provider. With the development of the inflight wifi technologies, WiFi will become an intimate mate of customers in their whole journey and the E-business of airlines will see a broad space.
Since Nov. of last year, Xilehang under Hainan Airlines has provided 20,000 tablet PCs for the cabins of over 150 planes owned by Hainan Airlines and finished WIFI transformation in the passenger cabins of 5 planes. By far, all planes of Capital Airlines under Hainan Airlines have been provided with tablet PCs.
The official debut of the inflight wifi business means that domestic airlines start to dig a new "gold mine" of information services. Inflight wifi is a promising emerging market, which will bring not only a change in onboard services and even in business models, but also a rapid growth of the upstream &downstream industrial chain will also bring unlimited business opportunities for all manufacturers of consumer products. Industry experts believe that with the joining of the upstream and downstream enterprises of the industrial chain as well as the rising of passenger demands, the domestic aviation Internet industry will enter a period of rapid growth and will maintain an average annual growth rate of 30 percent the next five years. The scale of the entire aviation Internet industry will exceed one hundred billion.
As the inflight wifi sees dramatic breakthroughs, under the support of various departments and commercial airlines concerned, IRICHT had successfully held the past two ICT events. In order to promote the establishing of the inflight wifi industrial chain, at the request of the industry experts, various major airlines and the world's top suppliers, ICT2015 will be held from April 22 to 23, 2015 in New World Shanghai Hotel.
